Sest vabaimprovisatsioon on alati siin-ja-kohe muusika.

Vähemalt selline on pilt Tunnetusüksusest mu mälus.

Helijäädvustust nüüd üle kuulates tundsin üllatusega, kuidas selle muusika energia paneb ka praegu hulga lambikesi vilkuma. Ilma nostalgiata.

Twenty years from now in the spacious First studio in our old radio house, where only the walls can remember numerous orchestras, bands and performers recording their music. People came here with their best hopes and dreams in order to capture that free spirit of their music to the recordings forever.
On that night the Perception Unit was giving a studio performance in front of the audience and it was recorded alive.
Unconventional and contradictional ritual against any ordinary thinking took place in that studio, because these five musicians and their music methods were totally different from all their forerunners who had performed in this studio before them.
On their ?music stand? there would be an empty sheet of paper as there had been an empty sheet of paper during all their performances during last four years in big and small music halls. Everything is free and all the doors are opened. No one ? even the musicians themselves ? don?t have a clue, what sounds will be played and where the music takes them at the end.
That?s because free improvisation music is always here-and-now. All this cascade of sounds, their past and their future, has been captured by musicians in the moment of ?now? and transformed into energy which is hard to describe.
Sometimes this kind of music has been called spontaneous composing, where all the activity takes place in real time in uninterrupted line with all mistakes and success. The result might be uncommunicative mess of sounds or inspiring speech of tones, which fulfills the listeners? minds with the beams of light that might be bigger than life itself. From extreme to extreme, from drastic to drastic.
I have a memory of that performance of the Perception Unit, an interesting memory. All their performances were totally different from each other those times, but the energy and enthusiasm and the spirit in their sounds formed a united line. At least that?s the vision I have in my mind.
Listening again those recordings now I felt with a surprise that their music still stirs many lights in me. It does, without any nostalgia. Not like a memory of a warm sunbeam, but rather like the hot sunbeam itself. It is something that doesn?t strive along with the time but surrounds the time with its energy.
This music and this moment is valuable today as it was then. It speaks to you and touches you. Its story is clear and its thoughts go further.
I also remember, that on their first concert in the Palace of Von Glehn among listeners was an Estonian artist Jüri Arrak. When the sounds ended in silence, he was very inspired and stood up and said out aloud over the audience: ?Men, you are doing the right thing!?
The well-experienced artist could understand it already then.
